FRP Pallets Replace Wood and Plastic Pallets in Wet Warehouses

In a food-processing warehouse, wood pallets get thrown away by the truckload every year. Once wood pallets get damp, mould takes hold, and a hygiene inspection sends whole batches off the floor. Plastic pallets in cold storage crack as soon as winter hits. Pallets look like the cheapest consumable in the warehouse, yet the annual pallet bill adds up quickly.

Wood pallets barely last three years in wet corners. Wood fibres soak up water, then mould and warp, and mould and pests follow into food rooms. Exposed nails and splinters cut workers and scratch cargo. Export wood pallets must pass IPPC fumigation, and a container sits for a week or two while fumigation paperwork clears. When the boards finally fall apart, wood pallets are usually scrapped.

Plastic pallets fix the mould problem, yet plastic pallets lose on cold and chemicals. In cold storage and winter yards, HDPE plastic pallets crack under a hard impact. After sitting in alkalis and solvents, plastic surfaces swell and age. Heavy stacks leave permanent dents, and once cracked, plastic pallets cannot be repaired.

FRP pallets are moulded from glass fibres and resin in one shot, and the dense surface absorbs no water. After a pressure wash, FRP pallets stay mould-free and bacteria-free, and food and pharma rooms run FRP pallets straight through sanitation. Acids, alkalis and cleaning solvents do not touch FRP pallets. FRP pallet length, width, colour and anti-slip finish all follow rack and forklift dimensions.

The first places to switch to FRP pallets are wet food and pharma rooms, low-temperature cold stores, chemical warehouses, clean pharma zones under repeated washing, and export forwarders. In wet, cold and chemical-heavy facilities, hygiene and durability matter more than a few dollars saved per pallet.

Pick pallets by the job, and the warehouse drops one recurring consumable line. In damp, corrosive and low-temperature rooms, FRP pallets keep cycling for ten years or more. FRP pallets move out of the throwaway category and onto the long-cycle asset list.
